CityVids.tv Quick Review: If you have never been to Red Rocks, you really need to go. It is truly THE BEST concert venue in the entire United States. There isn’t a bad seat in the house and the sound is awesome. Most shows are general admission. Sitting up front gets you close and intimate with the band. Sitting further back lets you enjoy the show, but also take in the expansive view of Denver and the plains. There truly is something magic about this place. Bring an umbrella because it sometimes rains. And check the site for what you can bring/can’t bring because you definitely don’t want to trek back to your car to put something back after standing in line to get in.

Lots of great spaces under the trees, but may not have as good sound. This quick video that gives you an idea of about ¼ of the people that actually attend this awesome weekly event.

The Food Truck craze has officially hit Denver and citizens couldn’t be any more enthusiastic! After all, Denver IS a big outdoors kind of town and what could be better than eating outside on a beautiful spring or summer day?

Two events are happening this summer so be sure to check them out:

Denver Civic Center Eats Outdoor Cafe

*VIDEO* Capitol Hill People’s Fair 2011

The Capitol Hill People’s Fair happens every year in Denver in the beginning of June and is put on by CHUN (Capitol Hill United Neighborhoods). It’s a celebration of the diverse urban community and its residents.

Hundreds of vendor booths will be on hand to offer arts & crafts, delicious food, and information on various fundraisers and non-profits. There will also be entertainment as well. In addition to street theatre and children’s act, 130 bands will be playing across 6 stages all weekend!

We highly recommend riding your bike to Civic Center Park because many streets will be closed around the area and parking will be at a premium. Or take the lightrail to 16th and California, then hop on the FREE MallRide towards Colfax and you’ll be right there!

It’ll be hot so bring water, sunscreen and a hat. Most vendors accept cash only, so stop at an ATM first if you want to avoid fees at the ones nearby. And don’t forget to try the strawberries and chocolate on a stick!

When: Saturday, June 4, 2011 10am – 8pm. Sunday, June 5, 10am-7pm

Where: Civic Center Park, Denver Colorado (just head towards the capitol and the Denver Art Museum and you can’t miss it).

Cost: Free admission

Details: http://www.Chundenver.org and http://peoplesfair.wordpress.com/

The video below was the best representation I could find for the People’s Fair. That means CityVids.tv will be filming our own version this year. Stay tuned!

The line-up for 2011 includes classics like The Big Lebowski, Footloose, A Fish Called Wanda, Top Gun, and yes, Twilight. The season ends with The Talking Heads’ movie, Stop Making Sense.

Every movie starts with a local opening band and giveaways until the sun sets, and then its movie time.

You have a few options to make movie night awesome:

General Admission
$12 tickets, show up before 6:45 to find a good seat and catch the opening band.

Trading Post Pre-party & Film
$27 includes food and beer at the Red Rocks Trading Post before the movie, a ticket for the movie and access to VIP seating for the movie (key so you don’t have to get there too early).

Party Bus & Film
$45 includes happy hour at the Rackhouse Pub http://rackhousepub.com/ at Kalamath & Alameda with complimentary food & cocktails, party bus transport to Red Rocks courtesy of Sunset Limo, ticket for the movie and access to VIP seating for the movie.

The VIP section is the roped off seating area in front of the stage. Sweet.

What to bring:

  • Stadium seat, pillow or blanket to sit on. Those bench seats at Red Rocks are not that comfy after about 30 minutes.
  • Dinner and/or snacks. What’s allowed: non-alcoholic drinks in factory sealed plastic (NO GLASS or CANS) containers, empty soft-sided water bottles, small coolers, food. OR you can opt to buy food/drinks (including alcohol) at the various stands inside.
  • Small compact umbrella in case it rains as is wont to happen at Red Rocks.
  • A complete list of what’s allowed/not allowed at Red Rocks.

Last August, Channel 2 had this coverage of before the movie excitement:

24th Annual Boulder Creek Festival

I used to live in Boulder once upon a time and one of my favorite things to do for Memorial Day weekend was hang out at the Boulder Creek Festival. It’s a huge festival that spans across Central Park and the Municipal Building grounds along the Boulder Creek and just across from downtown.
The three days include free concerts in the bandshell, tons of vendor booths, tons of food, all kinds of performances and carnival rides. The big signature event, the Great Rubber Ducky Race occurs on Monday. I found this video on Vimeo.com of the race. It’s a little long, but you get the picture:

The festival is free to all. Ten separate event areas include 500 vendors showcasing everything from arts and crafts to health alternatives (it is Boulder after all). It’s just a great excuse to hang out in the park with nice people and enjoy the start of summer.

33rd Annual Bolder BOULDER 10k Race *VIDEO*

I know this is not really in Denver, but it’s still the Denver area and the Bolder BOULDER is probably THE biggest happening in the area every Memorial Day. The 10k race draws over 50,000 runners from all over the world and incorporates more waves than any other event. This year is the 33rd annual Bolder BOULDER and every year runners cross the finish line on the floor of the CU Buff’s stadium, filled with many fans. If you haven’t done this before, it’s definitely a one-of-a-kind experience!

What’s cool about this community event is that it’s for everyone. If you’re just not that into running, you can even walk it if you still want to be part of the excitement! I highly recommend doing it once just because the experience is very unique and a lot of fun. The entire course is flanked by bands and performers of all kinds. For the list of course entertainment, click here.

I couldn’t decide between these following two 2010 videos so I decided to share them both with you. Enjoy!

12th Annual Veterans Memorial Day Tribute & Parade *VIDEO*

Most people usually associate Memorial Day with BBQ’s and sunshine: playing in the water, riding your bike, or having fun with friends and family. That’s why most of us tend to forget that Memorial Day is actually a holiday to honor those that have died for our country. This is sad because in 2010, less people attended the parade than people who were in it!

This year spend a little time remembering the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for us in Iraq and Afghanistan by attending the Veterans Memorial Day Tribute and Parade.

A Wreath Laying to honor the fallen will occur at 9am on Saturday May 28th at the Colorado Veterans Monument at the Colorado State Capitol.
Afterwards, the parade will begin at 10am at West Colfax Avenue and Bannock Street, followed by the Tribute Ceremony from 11:30am to 2:30pm.

Watch the video from 2010 parades throughout Colorado courtesy of 9news.com. Sorry about the ad at the beginning, that’s just the news.

32nd Annual Old South Gaylord Memorial Day Festival

2011 marks the 32nd Annual Old South Gaylord Memorial Day Festival! It features live music all day, every day and vendor booths along the quaint block of shops and restaurants a few blocks east of Wash Park. This block is rich in historic character.

Unique fine art, pottery, jewelry, designer clothing, and more will be available at vendor booths all three days.

The Children’s areas are at the north and south ends of the block. Kids will have the opportunity to enjoy pony rides, a bungee trampoline, climbing wall, the world’s largest pinball machine, rides and activities.

Each year, the Merchants Association gives back to the community by choosing a charity to support through proceeds from the Festival. So there you have it: one more reason to get out and enjoy some sunshine with good people, food, music and art!
